Mukamba says he’s in right state of mind for the new season

Dynamos midfielder, Denver Mukamba, has said he is in the correct frame of mind ahead of the 2017 season.

The 2012 Castle Lager Premier League Soccer Star of the year played for Bidvest Wits in South Africa for three years before returning to the former premier league champions mid season last year.

Mukamba made nine league appearances for Bidvest Wits over two years.

The 25-year-old spent the 2014 – 2015 season on loan University of Pretoria where he made 20 appearances for Tuks, scoring three goals before being further loaned out to relegated Jomo Cosmos where he made 14 appearances and 2 goals in all competitions.

Upon return last year, he and his teammates watched Dynamos struggle before finishing fifth on the league table.

“Yes, I’m 100% in the right state of mind. What affected me is that I didn’t have enough game time in South Africa,” Mukamba told Soccer24.

The once dazzling, talented midfielder has not been the same player he was when he last lifted the premier league trophy with Dynamos in 2012. Recently, Dynamos coach, Lloyd Mutasa, said he had to axe several players in order to give Mukamba and several other players some quality opportunities.

Players who were axed include new Highlanders forward, Roderick Mutuma, defender Sydney Linyama and midfielder, Steven Alimenda in a move aimed at cleansing the team from ‘negative’ elements.

“I’m just waiting for league games to start. One or two things on the football pitch can affect players. But I like the way we are working as a team and the way I want to come back to the Denver Mukamba that people know,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mutasa has said the team is looking forward to the Denver Mukamba of old and spok about the measures in place to assist the player to go back to former heights.

“I think Denver [Mukamba] is basically a gifted young footballer. We don’t doubt his talent. What we only have to improve on him is the desire to keep working and the desire to last the difference and probably off the field behaviour, it helps these players a lot. When [as a player] you are told to go and rest and you go and rest; I think we’ll see the Denver Mukamba of the past,” Mutasa told Soccer24.
