Dynamos coach, Lloyd Mutasa, has said there is life after Warriors goalkeeper, Tatenda Mukuruva, who joined Cape Town City as a free agent in February.

Speaking to Soccer24, Mutasa said the 21-year-old talented footballer is not irreplaceable as the former champions look to turn around their title fortunes this season.

“I’m sure you know this is Dynamos, we had good players who left [back in the days]. You look at the likes of Moses Chunga [and] George Shaya to mention but a few. They left the team but Dynamos is still surviving.

“We are looking ahead with much confidence because we know we are able to find replacements and go forward,” he said.

Mukuruva’s exploits with Dynamos last season despite ending fifth on the league table and with the Zimbabwe national soccer team at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon in January earned him a reputation which saw him move to the ABSA premier league in search of greener pastures.

The move left Dynamos with a huge void to fill with fans calling for the club to purchase a new goalkeeper.

Under fire goalkeeper, Ashley Reyners , who appears to be Mukuruva’s replacement, has conceded six goals in two matches in pre-season.

He was criticised for being sluggish in the 3-1 defeat to CAPS United in the Commander Zimbabwe National Army’s (ZNA) Charity Shield last week. He also conceded three goals in their recent friendly against division one side Trojan Stars last Saturday.

However, Dynamos will likely be looking to make do with Reyners in the 2017 season.

“Well, I think Reyners was an understudy to the national team goalkeeper and I think he learnt a lot from Tatenda [Mukuruva]. But we don’t only have Reyners in our books, we have Tonderai [Mateyaunga] as well and we are looking for the third goalkeeper and the name will be supplied soon,” Mutasa said.

Meanwhile Mukuruva could make his debut when Cape Town City take on Acornbush United in the Nedbank Cup. Shu-Aib Walters has been the preferred choice in goals but is suspended for this weekend’s game.
