Chitembwe On TP Mazembe

CAPS United meet DRC champions and five time winners of the CAF Champions League, TP Mazembe, in the first round second leg of the tournament at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Sunday.

The two teams drew 1-1 in Lubumbashi, DRC on Sunday and the home team will be looking to capitalize on the away goal to reach the group stages of the tournament.

CAPS United head coach, Lloyd Chitembwe, briefly spoke on the encounter and other team news items at a gathering of the media members at the club offices in Harare on Thursday afternoon.

“Nothing special, nothing special, the preparations have been ongoing ever since we started our preparations for the new season and this week we had a very good turnout, everyone is in training and above all, the most important thing is [that] the attitude has been excellent, so I think all is set.”

On Ronald Pfumbidzai:

“Not exactly fully fit but he’s up and about, he’s training with the group, I’m sure he will participate on Sunday.”

On pressure:

“It’s always pressure pressure pressure. Sometimes, I don’t want to respond to that, you know, in football, that’s not important. What’s important is your preparations and how to play on Sunday.”

On their state of preparedness:

“One thing for sure is we know they will come at us and we won’t look different from the way we were playing. No one can play outside what they are capable of doing so we’ll try to apply ourselves in the best way that we know we can get what we want out of the game.”

On Ronald Chitiyo:

“That [question] is a distraction. For now I don’t want to talk about Rooney, he’s not participating [despite] contributing very well. So for now, the focus should be on the team. It’s all about the team”.

On overall expectations for Sunday:

“A difficult game! Very difficult! Ndoti chii manje? (What should I say?).”

On CAPS United’s bullishness:

“No, we are not bullish. I don’t think that is the correct sentiment. It’s not about being bullish. We are confident not bullish . . . [We are] very respectful of our opponents. So yah, we will try and do what we can do to get what we want from the match.”

On overall impression of how TP Mazembe apply themselves:

“One thing for certain is that they [TP Mazembe] are a very good team. This is a fact you can’t run away from that. They are a very good team and we are going into this game with a better idea of how they play. We are in a very good position to make the right kind of decisions based on what we know they can do”.
