Sundowns strike late to progress in CAF Champions League

Mamelodi Sundowns survived a scare to progress to the group stages of the CAF Champions League after drawing 1-1 with Ugandan side Kampala City.

The reigning champions trailed the Ugandan side until the 80th minute of the game when Anthony Laffor struck the all important equaliser

Geoffrey Serenkuma had scored for the home side in the 30th minute. Khama Billiat and David Onyango both missed the game with injuries but Sundowns still had enough to get a result.

The result sees Sundowns progress to the group stages of the competition with a 3-2 aggregate.

In other matches Donald Ngoma and Thabani Kamusoko’s Yanga were knocked out after playing a goalless draw with Zanaco. Zanaco go through after scoring an away goal in first leg 1-1 draw.
