Dynamos will be first to win newly launched Castle Challenge Cup – Mubaiwa

Dynamos executive chairman, Kenny Mubaiwa, has said that the former premier league giants will be the first to win the newly introduced Castle Lager Challenge Cup.

Delta Beverages, at the official Castle Lager Premier Soccer League sponsorship unveiling at Mandel Training Centre in Harare this afternoon, introduced a new cup called the Castle Cup in addition to the regular Chibuku Super Cup.

Speaking on the sidelines of the unveiling ceremony, Mubaiwa said it was Dynamos’ culture to win every newly introduced cup.

“This cup that has been introduced; it comes at the end of the year, after the season has ended. And if you look at our culture at Dynamos football club, any new cup that is introduced, we are the first ones to put our hands on it. This one, we are definitely going to win it. I can assure you this.

“It’s good for the club [and] it’s good for everyone and we are going to win the cup,” Mubaiwa told Soccer24.

Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the league, Delta Beverages introduced the new Castle Lager Challenge Cup which is played in a one off match between the winners of the Castle Lager Premier League and the winners of the Chibuku Super Cup.

In the event that both the premier league and the Chibuku Super Cup are won by the same team, then the premier league winners will contest with the second placed team on the league table in the Castle Lager Challenge Cup.

The winners of the cup will pocket USD$30 000 while the runners up will pocket USD$20 000.

Mubaiwa said the Delta Beverages sponsorship renewal will go a long way in assisting the plight of local football clubs like Dynamos in the face of economic difficulties.

“As Dynamos football club, we value the support that we get from Delta [Beverages]. I would like to thank them for the continued support.

“Dynamos is a big brand [and for it] to be here, it is through the support of the corporate world which is good for our football. So I think going forward, it is good what has happened today that at least we have money coming in from Delta [Beverages] to sponsor the league,” Mubaiwa added.

Meanwhile, Delta beverages Marketing Director Maxwell Karombo said that in addition to the USD$ 3 450 000 sponsorship package granted over three years, the beverages company would grant an additional USD$ 2 000 000 through other activities to make it USD $5 450 000.

He said the new sponsorship package is the biggest commitment to sport that any company has in the country has ever made.

“This money represents the direct cash injection into the coffers of the league and clubs. Over and above this money, Delta Beverages will invest a further $2 000 000 in support of the league through various activities that benefit the fans, consumers and traders of Castle Lager and Chikuku Supper.

“Therefore the total investment Delta Beverages will commit to football in the next three years is worth five million four hundred and fifty thousand dollars (USD$ 5 450 000). This is the biggest sponsorship commitment to sport that any company in the country has ever made,” he said.
