Shabanie promise more upsets after beating Highlanders

Shabanie have have promised even bigger things after their good start to the Premier Soccer League season.

Shabanie produced the biggest upset of the season so far when they handed Highlanders a 1-0 defeat at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

The result means the premiership returnees have now taken four points from both CAPS United and Highlanders and are keen to achieve even bigger things as the season progresses.

Outgoing Shabanie head coach Wilson Mutekede was pleased with his players performance. “It’s always good to get a result after playing a team like Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium.

“It means the boys are committed and I must say PSL missed Shabanie Mine.

“People are going to witness entertaining football this year,” added  Mutekede who is set to leave Shabanie after being appointed to the Zifa technical director position,.

Highlanders head coach Erol Akbay believes Eric Mudzingwa’s red card was the turning point in the tightly contested match.

Mudzingwa was sent off after receiving a second yellow for dissent and Shabanie capitalised as Nelson Maziwisa struck the late goal.

“We played very well in the second half but that needless red card that was shown to our captain Eric Mudzingwa cost us said Akbay

“However, we could also have scored in the first half but the referee had other thoughts. “Maybe the match officials saw better. He refused to admit that his mini strike last week could have also have affected his charges.
