Dynamos beat Highlanders to clinch Uhuru Cup

Dynamos have clinched a record 8th Uhuru Cup after beating Highlanders 3-2 on penalties in a dramatic final at the National Sports Stadium.

The match had a fast start with both teams settling early but Dynamos had the slight edge and created more chances in the first ten minutes of the game.

Highlanders though started to get their passing game going as the first half progressed and Prince Dube got a good chance in the 19th minute after being set up by the enterprising Mutuma.

Sadiki ,Mandiranga all came close for Dynamos but were wasteful as halftime came with the scoreline still goalless.

In the 54th minute Lloyd Mutasa brought in Masimba Mambare for Sadiki. The move paid off as Mambare scored following a clever flick from Quality Kangadze.

The goal was hotly disputed by Highlanders players who felt a Dynamos player had been in an offside position.

The goal saw Highlanders step up their game and tempo as they pressed for an equaliser with Mutuma in particular in the thick of things and the key man upfront.

On the 79th minute Mutuma missed a great glorious chances just a few meters from goal while Brian Banda wasted a free kick at the edge of the box as Highlanders continued to press.

On the 87th minute Mateyaunga denied a well taken header by Mutuma. With four minutes of added time shown by the fourth official Dynamos players restored to time wasting tactics.

However the move backfired with Highlanders equalising from a penalty converted by Ralph Matema in the 95th minute after Zvasiya had handled in the box. The late equaliser saw the game head into a penalty shoot out.

Both teams had a disastrous start with Ralph Matema and Ocean Mushure missing the first two penalties.  Peace Makaha eventually converted the 10th spot kick to hand Dynamos the win.

The result sees Dembare win $15 000 while Highlanders walk away with $10 000 as the runner up

In the 3rd and 4th place final FC Platinum edged CAPS United 1-0 at Barobourfields Stadium. William Stima scored from a penalty to hand FC Paltinum 3rd place.
