Mpofu happy as Bulawayo City salvages point

Bulawayo City coach, Mandla Mpofu, has said that he is happy with his side salvaging a point away at Harare City in a Castle Lager Premier League match played at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.

Bulawayo City recorded their second draw in five games. Their first draw was at home against FC Platinum. They also beat Chicken Inn 2-1 at home before beating Shabanie Mine 2-0 away. They sit on eight points.

“I think a point away from home at this moment in the first round of the season is good. Although I think we should have rapped the game in the first half [when we were] creating good chances.

Last year, Bulawayo City got back-to-back defeats against their Harare opponents. Mpofu counts the point they rescued on Wednesday as progress made by the club which entered the league last year.

“[It was] a very friendly atmosphere but very competitive where both teams played good football. I enjoyed. But I might say we showed a lot of character going into this game; remember, Harare City last year got six points out of us, but today we managed to come here and get a point. I’m very happy,” Mpofu told journalists after the match.

Mpofu, however, says he understands the Bulawayo City underdog tag and accepts that the team is still small but has a bright future ahead.

“I’ll not remove that underdog tag. We are still a small team. We are still learning the ropes but we’ll try and compete as much as we can. But obviously we’ll have some shocking results, I think I have a good team that by end of the day, people will realise that it’s a good team.

“As I said before, I’m trying to build a team. A team that can compete, a team that can get as many points as we can. They are jellying well, I’m very much impressed . . . Going forward I think we’ll get the results that we want, but at this moment, today, I’m very happy with this precious point,” he said.
