Harare Derby doubtful as stadia headache continues

The Harare derby between Dynamos and CAPS United that we was set for this weekend is doubtful with Rufaro Stadium still not ready to host matches for at least two more weeks.

The National Sports Stadium has been closed for preparations ahead of a Pastor Chris crusade set for the 7th May leaving the Premier Soccer League with a major venue headache.

Gwanzura stadium is also not ready leaving clubs with only Morris Depot as the only option available

Only two matches were hosted at the venue this weekend and only after intervention from the Minister of Sports and Recreation Makhosini Hlongwane. Two other matches Harare v ZPC Kariba and Black Rhinos v FC Platinum were moved to Morris Depot.

Rufaro Stadium has been undergoing renovations which included the removal of the artificial playing surface which has been replaced by natural grass.

Speaking to the Herald, ZIFA spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela said, We inspected the Rufaro Stadium on Friday and observed that there was work in progress on the pitch.

The contractor hired by Harare CIty advised us that he needed about two weeks to attend to some areas on the pitch added Gwesela.

The pitch is set to undergo another inspection this week where a decision will then be made by the PSL.
