Chiyangwa: Broke ZIFA cannot afford a foreign coach

ZIFA and Cosafa president Dr Philip Chiyangwa says his association cannot afford to hire an expensive head coach like Herve Renard.

Chiyangwa recently met Renard on the sidelines of a FIFA meeting in Bahrain triggering speculation that the two-time AFCON winner could be considered for the Warriors head coach post.

However, Chiyangwa says ZIFA were realistic and are not even in a rush to make an appointment. “The association has no money to employ a foreign coach at the moment because they are very expensive Chiyangwa is quoted saying by the Herald

According to Chiyangwa Renard is being paid $50 000 per month by the Moroccan FA.

“As Zimbabwe we can’t afford such. At one time ZIFA ended up in debt as they failed to pay Tom Saintfiet and Valinhos their monies.

“We are not in a rush to appoint a coach as we only have two big assignments this year added Chiyangwa.

ZIFA have already indicated that Norman Mapeza will continue as Warriors head coach on an interim basis and will be in charge when the AFCON 2019 qualifiers begin against Liberia.
