The Highlanders #AsifuniBumbulu fundraising campaign meant to cover the club’s impending Premier Soccer League (PSL) fine had by yesterday morning realized just over $500, the club’s chief executive officer, Nhlanhla Dube, has disclosed.

The #AsifuniBumbulu  campaign, which has seen the club’s followers make monetary contributions through mobile money transfer Ecocash Biller code and the club’s bank accounts, came into being following crowd trouble that occurred during Bosso versus Dembare premier league match which was abandoned last Sunday.

“As of 10am the contributions were just above $500. We think it’s a good response and we have been getting contributions from South Africa, UK, Australia and interesting calls from Zimbabwean nationals who are based in Mogadishu.

“We have reached wider through this fan initiative. We are happy that the Bosso brand has footprints on every continent,” said Dube.

The match had to be abandoned after part of Barbourfields Stadium resembled a war zone following Dynamos’ contentious equalizer through Cameroonian forward Chistian Ntouba Epoupa a few minutes before half time.

The Bosso fans were felt hard done by the assistant referee Thomas Kusosa’s decision to let the goal stand as they felt the scorer had been in an offside position. They made their feelings known by throwing missiles onto to the pitch and engaging in running battles with the police.

Anticipating serious backlash from the PSL, Bosso fans have started a campaign to raise funds to pay the fine.

The campaign has been called the #AsifuniBumbulu Dollar Campaign, loosely translated to mean “we do not want nonsense”, and it is meant to encourage Bosso fans to donate at least $1 to the club for the anticipated fine.
