Ovidy Karuru inspires Warriors to victory over Mozambique

The Zimbabwe national team got their Cosafa Cup campaign off to a flying start with a 4-0 win over Mozambique this evening.

The Warriors created the better chances but were wasteful despite dominating the first half as the forward line took chances to miss. 

Leeroy Mavunga, Knox Mutizwa ,Gerald Takwara all blew chances that came their way in the first half.

In the 43rd minute Man of the match and Warriors skipper Ovidy Karuru finally broke the deadlock when he beat the offside trap before finishing from an angle.

Halftime came with Zimbabwe firmly in control but with only a 1-0 lead despite their dominance 

In the second half Zimbabwe picked up from where they left as they continued to bombard Mozambique with attacks.

Liberty Mavunga had a great chance to score in the 56th minute but failed to hit the target with only the keeper to beat.

On 60 minutes Knox Mutizwa had the ball in the back of the net after a good lay off by Karuru but the goal was incorrectly ruled out for an offside by the Seychelles assistant referee

In the 64th minute Karuru doubled the lead with a header for a corner. Karuru could have grabbed a hat-trick in the 75th minute but failed to bury his chance despite being one on one with the keeper.

Two minutes later Ocean Mushure put the Warriors three up with a sublime free kick just outside the box.

Herentals forward Blessing Majarira then wrapped up the win with a good finish in the 92nd minute after coming on for Talent Chawapiwa.
