Chitembwe hints at quitting CAPS United

CAPS United head coach, Lloyd Chitembwe, has given a strong hint he may quit the club after his side were handed a shock 2-0 defeat by Yadah at Morris Depot this afternoon.

The defeat follows CAPS United’s CAF Champions League 4-2 loss to Al Ahly Tripoli in Tunisia in the CAF Champions League last week.

Speaking to journalists after the defeat, Chitembwe said after registering a string of unfavourable results, it is the right time for him to reconsider his position.

“I know the expectation of the team, the expectation of the players, they gave their all but unfortunately it was never meant to be and at the end of the day, it is all about the coach.

“When you are a coach, you have this kind of responsibility, I also look at myself critically. I think I need to really look at myself and my position very, very critically,” said Chitembwe.

CAPS United are now in relegation zone with 13 points from nine games. They, however, have six games in hand due to their participation in the CAF Champions League this season.

“This is a great club, it deserves more and better and sometimes you feel if you are not doing what the club deserves, you feel like you are not doing what you are supposed to be doing. Maybe out there, there is someone who has the capacity to take the team further .

“I am very, very happy with how these guys have gone about their business unfortunately it was never meant to be our day,” he added.

CAPS United’s face Zamalek at home this weekend in the CAF Champions League needing nothing short of victory to remain in the competition.
