It’s a great win, says Kwashi

CAPS United assistant coach, Fungai Kwashi, has expressed delight at the team’s 3-1 win over five-time African champions Zamalek in a CAF Champions League group B group stages match played at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.

Zamalek fell to a Ronald Pfumbidzai 30th minute strike and an Abbas Amidu brace in the 75th and 93rd minutes.

Speaking to journalists after the match, Kwashi lauded the hard work put in by the players and attributed the win to team work.

“Great result for CAPS United; big win. This was probably the biggest game of the year; we needed the ‘W’ (Win), but like I said yesterday (Saturday), the team is the star, it’s all about team work.

“Our team work starting from Mr. [Farai] Jere, through to Mr. [Nhamo] Tutisani’s board through to Lloyd Chitembwe our gaffer. Like I said and I’ll keep on saying, Lloyd Chitembwe is one of the best gaffers we have in the country, Africa and in the world.

“Today’s (Sunday) result is not only for him or for CAPS and Zimbabwe.  So it was a great game and the guys worked for each other,” Kwashi said.

After the Zamalek win, CAPS United are now on six points and stand a chance at a record breaking qualification into the quarter finals of the tournament if they can beat USM Alger away in Algeria next week.

“. . . we have one game left, three points at stake, so the situation we find ourselves in is that we have to go for three points, there are no more excuses,” he added.

“Yes, it was a tough game, [but] next week it’s going to be another tough game. We do not take anything for granted, we respect [USM] Alger, they are a good side. But after today’s victory, we are also upbeat and confident in ourselves . . . that we’ll do everyone who is Zimbabwean proud.”
