Chidzambwa sets target ahead of Namibia clash

Warriors head coach, Sunday ‘Mhofu’ Chidzambwa, has set the target for the team as they head into the second leg of the African Nations Championships (CHAN) 2018 qualifiers against Namibia at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Sunday.

The Warriors suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the ‘Brave Warriors’ away in Windhoek last weekend and now have to win by a certain margin in a do-or-die clash at home if they are to progress to the next round.

Speaking ahead of the return fixture, the three time Council of Southern Africa football Associations (COSAFA) Castle Cup winning coach said everything is set to grab a result against the Namibians and progress to the next round.

“I would rather say our first game in Namibia was the first half and now it’s the second half and if we are to progress to the next round we have to beat Namibia by two goals or more. So the onus is on us, we have to fight it out, we have the crowd behind us, our boys are geared up for the encounter,” he told journalists at a Warriors training session at Yadah Hotel yesterday.

“Namibia are not bad, they played very well, they have very good players . . . and we have to look out for those players and make sure we close them down and at the same time we try and create meaningful scoring chances and put them away.”

The ZPC Kariba coach said the Warriors had enough Arsenal to complete the job at hand without several players who recently performed at the COSAFA Castle Cup and other injury absentees such as captain Ocean Mushure, who has been replaced by Yadah FC defender, Dennis Dauda as the skipper.

“I think we have [enough arsenal], if you look at players like Ronald Chitiyo, Abbas Amidu, I think we have very good players in the camp.

“I think the language is the same. We are also looking for a victory, and that’s the language we were telling the boys throughout the week.

“The training sessions have been okay, it’s only that we only trained as a full squad today because of the CAPS [United] and How Mine guys. They had a game on Wednesday couldn’t train yesterday (Thursday) because they had to rest. Today (Friday) we had a full squad,” he said.
