Antipas disappointed with Usuthu exit

Former Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas has expressed disappointment after his contract with newly promoted ABSA PSL side Amazulu was terminated, though by mutual agreement.

On Tuesday, Usuthu announced they had reached an agreement with Antipas and assistant Prince Matore to end their working relationship before the coming season.

In an interview with Sunday World, the 2015 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Coach of the season said he was shocked and never saw his departure coming.

“We parted ways amicably but I was left shocked and disappointed. I did not see it coming. I was training the team, preparing for the new season. I accept it, it’s part of football,” Antipas said.

The coach believes one of the reasons behind his departure is because he does not have Absa Premiership experience.

“It was my dream to coach in the South African Premiership and leave a mark. I think they decided to get Johnson because he has experience and I don’t.

“I had a wonderful stay in SA. If the opportunity to coach in SA arises again, I will gladly take it,”

The Zimbabwean gaffer joined the Durban based outfit in May 2016 and he guarded them to PSL promotion. He will be replaced by former Platinum Stars and SuperSport United coach Cavin Johnson .
