How CAPS disrupted the pure platinum play

FC Platinum are known as a team which play good football and they  have done very well with the passing game which has justified their Pure Platinum Play tag.

They have a dynamic attack which have inflicted missery and a solid deffence which is rarely porous and they have conceaded twelve goals so far, the least after Chicken Inn. With this impressive record, the Zvishavane based outfit have lost only twice in this current campaign and their latest slump came on Wednesday afternoon against CAPS United.

Things were not easy and the tactical approach from Makepekepe was just superb. They managed to compound most of their opponents’ moves. Soccer24 have noted some of these counter tactics applied during the game.

Man-making the dangerman

Traditionally, the role of man-making the dangerman is done by the anchor man. However its not always ideal to assign the anchor man that role considering his physical ability and weaknesses (arial balls, etc).

For CAPS United they used Hardlife Zvirekwi, a fullback, to mark Ali Sadik a winger who is able to initiate an attack. Zvirekwi also doubled as a sweeper, cleaning up all the remaining threat.

High Pressing Game

Superbly excuted the home team made use of the touch line. On several occassions, they restricted the play to reach the middle park. The touchline was used as part of the defence as it sandwiched the opponent in position of the ball with the marker. This tactic helped CAPS to disrupt the passing game of FC Platinum which they intended to utelise the flanks

Dare Devon

With Zvirekwi taking up his role of as a man marker, Devon Chafa had a free role on the mid field. This made him available for challange and created a 50-50 tussle with FC Platinun’s middle line. He was the initial point of attack and his vision and passing ability created a great link with Phenius Bamusi.

Speedy Phenius Bamusi

The lad had the game of his time and was all over the place. The Green Machine, however, capitalised on his speed. Tectically he was the target man and was used to hold the ball while the support follows behind. They didn’t want to concead more goals by leaving to much space to cover at the back or in the event of a counter attack.
