Chelsea beat Tottenham Hotspur

Champions Chelsea recovered from a false start to the season when they overcame Tottenham 2-1 at Wembley Stadium.

The Blues were the first to press for an early goal when Alvaro Morata’s header missed the goal in the 6th minute. Spurs, however, regrouped themselves afterwards and dominated the ball position.

It was the visitors who broke the deadlock when Marcos Alonso’s superb freekick found the back of the net on the 24th minute mark.

The home team tried to restore parity but it was all in vain. Harry Kane’s shot in the 43rd minute hit the upright post and moments later, Ben Davies’ long range shot was tipped over by goalkeeper Thibour Courtois.

The scoreline remained the same on the halftime.

When the second half resumed, Spurs continued to search for an equaliser but Antonio Conte’s men were solid at the back. With fifteen minutes remaining on the clock, Willian could have gave his team a two goal advantage but his effort went straight to the woodwork.

The home team brought things to level after Chelsea substitute Mitchy Batshuayi headed the ball to his net with seven minutes to play.

Things were not going to remain the same as Marcos Alonso completed his brace of the day four minutes later when he smashed home a powerful strike from the left side.

The match ended 2-1 in favour of the Blues, giving Tottenham their first home defeat since April 2016.
