Chiyangwa unveils awards to honour local football legends

Zimbabwe Football Association is set to host awards to honour foreign based players and local football legends on November 11.

The inaugural awards will be held at Harare international Conference Center with a number of football administrators from all corners of the world expected to grace the event.

ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa unveiled the awards yesterday in Harare and the association’s vice president Omega Sibanda will chair the organizing committee. A panel of adjudicators which will include some football writers and commentators will be tasked to pick the winners in certain categories.

Chiyangwa said the awards are meant to honour those who made contributions in making Zimbabwean football what it is today.

Some of the awards to be presented are the best coach to guide the Warriors as well as the Mighty Warriors, outstanding Zimbabwean players based outside the country and best three coaches to guide domestic football clubs since 1980. However those honoured on the day will not include footballers plying their trade on domestic football scene.

The association is hoping to make the awards an annual event.
