Mapeza rues missed chances after Super Cup exit

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza was left disappointed by his team’s performance after they were knocked out of the Chibuku Super Cup by Chapungu in first round on Saturday.

The Zvishavane based side succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at Mandava. Brighton Mugoni ‘s goal from the spot in the 62nd minute was what Chapungu needed to progress in to the second round.

Mapeza rued the missed chances his team had on offer especially in first half.

“We missed many chances and in a tournament like this its about goals. It’s not like in the league where you push for a draw, there is no second chance,” said Mapeza.

“Those missed opportunities especially in the first half that is where we lost it. We had everything in our control but we missed it.”

The gaffer also said their poor show was partly caused by his charges drifting from the initial game plan.

“We started the game well but later we started playing long balls, surpassing our midfield. The moment our midfielders started running away from the defenders that is when we started having problems.”

Pure Platinum Play were presented with an offer to break the deadlock in the 52nd minute when they got a penalty but Winston Mhango blew it over the bar. Chapungu soon earned a penalty ten minutes later after a handball in the box which was successfully converted.
