World Cup Qualifiers Round-up

Argentina’s hopes of qualifying to the 2018 FIFA World Cup are hanging by a thread after they drew 0-0 with Peru.

Despite dominating position, Argentina fired blanks through out the game to the dismay of their fans. The result left them on sixth position, outside the qualification places. With one game left, they are  in danger of missing World Cup for the first time since 1970.

The first four teams in the standings qualify automatically, with the fifth-placed side going into a playoff against New Zealand in November.

Chile survived a late scare to beat Ecuador 2-1 on Thursday and moved into third-place in the 10-team South American qualifying group. Uruguay failed to break down Venezuela in a 0-0 draw and must wait until Tuesday to seal what looks a certain World Cup place. Brazil remained 10 points clear at the top of South American qualifying despite a 0-0 draw with Bolivia in La Paz.

In Europe, Germany and England booked their World Cup places on Thursday.

The world champions beat Northern Ireland 3-1 away.  Sabastian Rudy, Sandro Wagner and Joshua Kimmich were on target for Germany while the hosts scored a late consolation through Josh Magennis.

Harry Kane’s late strike against Slovenia secured England’s World Cup place with a slander 1-0 win. Meanwhile Poland are on the verge of qualifying after they beat Armenia 6-1. Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick to became Poland’s all time top goal scorer.
