Warriors to feature in 2017 CECAFA tournament

Zimbabwe national football team has been invited to take part at the 2017 CECAFA Challenge Cup next month.

The tournament which is Eastern and Central Africa’s equivalent of the COSAFA Castle Cup will see the Warriors participating as a guest nation for the first time in six years. The CECAFA Challenge Cup will be hosted in Kenya from November 25 to December 9.

According to the Herald, the invitation was contained in a letter sent to ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa by CECAFA secretary-general Nicholas Musonye this week.

“We wish to invite Zimbabwe national team to participate in the CECAFA Challenge Cup in Kenya between 25th November – 9th December 2017,” reads part of the letter.

Zimbabwe hosted and won the tournament in 1985 after beating Kenya in the finals. They finished as runners up in 1983.
