ZIFA, Government on collision course

Zimbabwe Football Association and the Government through the Ministry of Sports are reportedly on collision course after the two were organising matches for the Warriors on the same dates.

ZIFA have lined up two friendly matches against Lesotho and Namibia during the FIFA International Break which falls from 6-14 November. It is also understood that, on the other side preparations were at an advanced stage for the exhibition match against the Warriors and Barcelona Legends to be played during the same international break.

According to Newsday, ZIFA spokesperson and competitions manager Xolisani Gwesela confirmed the two friendlies to be played in November.

“We are playing Lesotho and Namibia during the November break in a space of three days. We are travelling to Lesotho for a game on the 8th and then connect to Namibia where we play on the 11th. The two matches have been confirmed,” he said.

Gwesele also said the  games will be used as part of the national team’s preparations to the 2019  AFCON qualifiers. However, he refused to comment on the other Warriors match being planned by the Ministry of Sports.

A week ago Brazilian football legend Rivaldo was in the country to promote the exhibition game. It remains unknown what will happen to the plans of ZIFA and the Government.
