Saturday Football Round-up

Here is a quick round-up of the games played in other leagues yesterday.

 

English Premier League
Liverpool and Manchester United played to a goalless draw at Anfield. The game created few chances on goal while Liverpool had the better part of ball position. The visitors never made  serious attacks except for one in which Romelu Lukaku’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper as their intention from the start was to park the bus.

Manchester City moved two points clear at the top of the table after they beat Stoke City 7-2. The biggest surprise was at Selhurst Park when Crystal Palace beat Chelsea 2-1. This was their first victory in eight games this season.

Arsenal is also another London giant which stumbled on Saturday. They lost to Watford 2-1 while Tottenham cruised to a slander 1-0 win over Bournemouth.

La Liga
Barcelona continued with their unbeaten run after they drew 1-1 away to Atletico Madrid.

Luis Suarez scored in the 82nd to cancel out  Saul Niguez’s first half goal. Lucky was not on Lionel Messi’s side as he hit the woodwork from a free-kick early in the second half. Barcelona are five points clear of Real Madrid, who earlier beat Getafe.

Ronaldo and Karim Benzema scored in Madrid’s victory. Meanwhile Atletico are third on 16 points, a point behind their city rivals.

MTN 8
A 10-man SuperSport United won on penalties to deny Benni McCarthy what was going to be his first cup glory in the tenth edition of the MTN 8.

The game ended 1-1 after extra time. Supersport goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was the hero of the day saving two penalties. They won 4-2 on penalties.
