Several Zimbabwean players in the ABSA Premiership clashed during the midweek league fixtures when their teams played against each other.

On Tuesday Mamelodi Sundowns’ Khama Billiat and Kaizer Chiefs’ Willard Katsande faced off when their teams played at Loftus Versfeld Stadium. The match ended 2-1 in favour of Chiefs. Katsande returned in to the starting XI after he missed the previous round clash due to suspension. He was on top of his form as usual  as he made some crucial interceptions on the midfield. However, it was a different story for Billiat who struggled through out.

He was substituted in the 83rd minute, when he was replaced by another Zimbabwean Cuthbert Malajila. Unfortunately, on his second appearance of the season, Malajila suffered a knock and limped off the pitch in pain before the final whistle.

Edmore Chirambadare also played in the clash when he came in as a substitute in the added time.

In another game played on the same day, Tatenda Mukuruva was on the bench when his team Cape Town City lost 1-0 to Ronald Pfumbidzai’s  Bloemfontein Celtic. Pfumbidzai started the game and played the whole ninety minutes.

Golden Arrows forward Kuda Mahachi was in the first XI when his team drew 1-1 against Baroka FC. He was replaced in the 71st minute by Knox Mutizwa.  Newly signed Thomas Chideu was not part of the Arrows squad. Danny Phiri and Baroka’s Talent Chawapiwa are still injured.

Goalkeeper George Chigova returned to action when his team, Polokwane City beat Amazulu 3-2. Chigova missed the previous league clash after he picked up an injury during warm-up on the match-day and on his return he again failed to keep a clean sheet. His team-mate Walter Musona scored the second goal in the 55th minute after Amazulu had equalised two minutes earlier. This was his second goal of the season.

Amazulu’s Butholezwe Ncube was also part of the action and he played the whole match.

Evans Rusike was in the starting team when his team Maritzburg drew 0-0 with Chippa United.
