Rule Us Out At Your Own Peril, Declares Rahman Gumbo

Rahman Gumbo fired a salvo at the top three title chasing teams after a refreshing  2-1 win over Harare City on Thursday saying Chicken Inn were still very much in the title race and remains unperturbed by their recent loss of form.

A recent lean spell that saw the Gamecocks picking up just a point out of a possible 12, gave way to some critics to question the club’s pedigree to fight for the tile but Gumbo is adamant that he can still win the title.

“We have never revised our target. Our target remains to win the league title and we are still going for it. We have not been getting the results the other weekends but the good thing is that we have won and we keep on focusing on what we set to achieve which is to win the championship,” said Gumbo.

“We are not really worried about how others are playing, we are just concentrating on what we can do. That is what I told the boys before the Harare City game that they should not think about other teams but just get in there and enjoy the game,”.

At some point during the campaign, Chicken Inn looked set like they were going to win the championship but a defeat to Yadah followed by losses to Caps United, Highlanders and a draw against Shabanie Mine cast a doom on the Gamecocks’ chances of finishing top. The win over Harare City took Chicken Inn to 55 points, four behind leaders FC Platinum with five round of matches before the end of the season.

Chicken Inn’s last five fixtures are away to ZPC Kariba followed by a home match against party spoilers Tsholotsho then a big encounter against rivals in the title chase Ngezi Platinum at Baobab stadium before hosting Chapungu and close the season against Dynamos in Harare.
