Chunga Castigates Adminstrators At Friday Phiri’s Burial

as chided football administrators who for ‘cheap politicking’ at the expense of the welfare of former players.

Speaking at the burial of Caps United legend and former Warriors striker Friday Phiri at Zororo Park in Chitungwiza, Chunga said that it was disheartening that administrators and other football stakeholders would talk nicely of a person when dead but did nothing in dire times.

“ Many people here are saying good things about my brother Friday Phiri but what benefit does it have when he is dead. When he needed help nobody was there for him but now he is dead people are saying all sorts of nice things,” bemoaned Chunga.

Caps United president Farai Jere had spoken earlier saying that the club was in the process of trying to create a post for Phiri in their structures by the time of his death.

“ We were looking at creating a position for him in our structures because he is a club legend,” said Jere.

Phiri who was out of employment for a long time, died on Friday after a long illness.

Chunga who leads a splinter coaches association union doesn’t mince his words , he said the same sentiments at the death of former Highlanders and Warriors midfielder Willard Khumalo.

Chunga berated the administrators for rhetoric speeches at funerals while not doing much for struggling or ailing former players. The former Dynamos midfielder and coach pledged to pay school fees for one of Khumalo’s sons.
