Caps United Targets 2018 Title

Caps United have set their targets at the 2018 league title after failing to defend their title this year owing to the taxing participation in the CAF Champions League.

Coach Lloyd Chitembwe says he is now using the remaining fixtures to build a team for next season’s campaign.

“You always have to plan with the future in mind. We are now looking at building a team that will be able to win us the title and any other silverware on offer next year and beyond,” said Chitembwe.

“When we look back at the season you find that the departure of some players affected our rhythm. If you lose one key player, it affects a lot. We lost a number of players we had last season in the likes of Leonard Tsipa, Simba Nhivi, Stephen Makatuka, Abbas Amidu and Ronald Chitiyo who had joined this year but became an important part of the team,”.

Chitembwe has already started fusing some young players into the team with striker John Zhuwawu and defender Godwin Goriyati already having an impact. Caps United also welcome back Equatorial Guinean striker Antonio Fugo from injury and he is in the squad to face Highlanders at the National Sports Stadium this evening.

The defending champions are likely to finish the season on fifth position as chances of the top four teams dropping points are very slim.
