S.A based Zim players round-up

The ABSA Premiership was on break over the weekend as the Telkom Knockout burst in to life.

The tournament saw Baroka FC’s Talent Chawapiwa scoring his first goal for the club. He struck home beautifully from a distance in the 15th minute. His goal was the difference at the end of the game as the Limpopo side advanced to the quarter finals after a 1-0 victory over Cape Town City.

The Golden Arrows contingent played but their team was eliminated after a 1-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates. Kuda Mahachi and Knox Mutizwa started but Mahachi was replaced in the 65th minute. Thomas Chideu came in the 71st minute.

Ovidy Karuru was expected to recover before his team AmaZulu faced Kaizer Chiefs in a match played in Durban. However, he was not part of the playing squad in Usuthu’s 3-0 defeat to Chiefs. Butholezwe Ncube started but was substituted in the 83rd minute.

Amakhosi’s Willard Katsande was part of the first XI while Edmore Chirambadare did not play.

Khama Billiat returned from injury and featured in his team’s 1-0 defeat to Chippa United. Khama picked up a knock during their clash against Kaizer Chiefs two weeks ago. There were fears that he might not play after he limped off the pitch during training on Thursday.

Meanwhile, George Chigova helped his team Polokwane City reach the last 8 together with Walter Musona who was later substituted in the extra time. They won 4-3 on penalties over Ajax Cape Town. Bloemfontein Celtic’s Ronald Pfumbidzai and Maritzburg’s Evans Rusike both played for their respective teams.
