Mpandare remains hopeful of British contingent’s commitment

National Team manager Wellington Mpandare is hopeful that the British contingent which has been included the 22 man squad announced on Monday will report for camp.

The Warriors are scheduled to play Lesotho and Namibia on 8 and 11 November respectively during the FIFA International break. Nottingham Forest defender Tendai Darikwa, Scotland based Kundai Benyu, Leicester forward Admiral Muskwe, and Leyton Orient’s Macauley Bonne have British passports and have in the past failed to feature in Warriors games.

“I am in touch with more than 30 eligible players to play for Zimbabwe but because of time frame we called those four for now so that they integrate smoothly into the team,’’ said Mpandare in a conversation with The Herald.

“They have communicated but commitment and actually coming here is different.”

Mpandare also told the newspaper that Khama Billiat was missing from the squad because of an injury.

The two friendlies will be used as part of the preparations to the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next year.
