Who is Wilson Mutekede, the new Warriors interim coach?

Wilson Mutekede will take charge of the Warriors’ two assignments in November after being unveiled as the new interim coach on Monday.

Mutekede is not new in local football circles as he is the current technical director of football at Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA). He assumed the position in April this year when he replaced Taurai Mangwiro who quit to join Triangle United.

Soccer24 takes a closer look at this new Warriors interim coach.

Wilson Mutekede is a holder of CAF A license. He has a Diploma in coaching and management from the National University of Science and Technology, the same institution where he is currently studying for a Sports Science in Coaching and Management degree.

The coach had a short spell at Shabanie Mine as a head coach this season before he joined ZIFA, taking charge of the Chinda Boys for only two games. He worked in Swaziland for Mbabane Citizens before he became Shabanie coach.

In 2011 he joined Highfield United (later changed to Twalumba FC), a division one side as a technical manager. Mutekede is credited as the man who spearhead the development of young talent at the club during his time until 2014.

Interestingly, Wilson will be assisted by Lloyd Chitembwe, a man he has worked with at CAPS United between 2009/10.  He also worked with another premiership club Kiglon in 2008 as assistant coach.

Meanwhile, the National Team assignments will be his biggest task in his career. The matches will be played on the 8th and 11th of November 2017 against  Lesotho and Namibia respectively.
