The ZIFA Awards could be postponed again

The inaugural edition of the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) awards that were scheduled to be held on the 24th of November at the HICC could be postponed for the second time.

The awards organised by ZIFA are meant to celebrate yesteryear football greats.

The Newsday has learnt that the day has already been booked for a show by Nigerian music star Tekno.

Initially the awards were set for 11 November but the organising committee for the awards agreed to move the event to 24 November citing a number of reasons like the unavailability of ZIFA President Philip Chiyangwa and the Warriors friendly match on same date.

The ZIFA Awards seek to honour those who have contributed to the development of the game in this country — including the greatest Zimbabwean Footballer of All-Time as chosen by the people. The show is set to feature high-profile international football personalities.

Other categories include Best International Football Player (1980) to date, Outstanding Zimbabwean Referee, Outstanding Senior Men’s National Team Coach (1980-2017), Best Zimbabwean Player Abroad (2016-17), Outstanding Leadership — Women’s Football, Outstanding Premier League Coach since 1980, Most Professionally-run Football Club, Most Successful Zimbabwean Club (1980-2017) and Junior Development Award.
