UCL: PSG through to knockout stage, Man Utd win, Barca held as Chelsea get thumped

Manchester United moved onto the brink of last-16 qualification in the
Champions League with a 2-0 victory over Benfica at Old Trafford tonight.

An unfortunate own goal from Benfica goalkeeper Mile Svilar gave United a half-time lead and Daley Blind sealed the win from the penalty spot late on.

The Red Devils have now won all four of their Group A games, but CSKA Moscow’s win over Basel means that official progression to the knockout stages must wait.

Two goals from Stephan El Shaarawy helped Roma run out 3-0 winners over Chelsea in their Champions League fixture at the Stadio Olimpico.

The winger opened the scoring after just 39 seconds and after the Italian international added a second before the break, Diego Perotti completed the scoring just after the hour mark to take the Serie A side to the top of Group C.

However, while Chelsea drop to second after extending their dismal run in Italy to five defeats in six games, the Premier League side only require one win to qualify for the last 16 after Atletico Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by Qarabag.

Barcelona have missed the chance to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League with two games to spare having been held to a goalless draw by Olympiacos.

Celtic have been knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage due to their 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich.

Paris Saint-Germain have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League thanks to a thumping 5-0 win over Anderlecht at the Parc des Princes
