Learn more about new Warriors Hotshot Kundai Benyu?

Leroy Jeremiah Benyu (born 12 December 1997) is an English-born Zimbabwean professional footballer who plays for Celtic as a midfielder.

Teen Benyu joined Ipswich’s academy in 2011 and was on the fringes of the first team at the age of 16.

Having impressed his coaches, gaffer Mick McCarthy promoted him to the first team, putting him on the bench for an East Anglian derby at Carrow Road.

Seeking senior experience, Benyu was sent on loan to Aldershot last season, where he helped them get to the National League play-offs.

It hasn’t all been positive for Benyu during his short career so far.

Before being farmed out on loan, there had been reports of a fall-out with Ipswich gaffer McCarthy because of the player’s attitude.

But, he seems to have matured over recent months and, with his current club keen to hang on to their man, the tension appears to have calmed.

Celtic became one of several clubs to have been keeping tabs on the youngster, with Premier League sides including Tottenham and Aston Villa having been alerted by the part he played in Aldershot storming up the table.

With Rodgers’ champions looking to bolster their crop as they aim to build on their treble-winning campaign, the starlet, who has his eye on a step up, could be an interesting addition to the ranks.

On 29 June 2017, it was announced that Benyu had signed a four-year contract with Celtic. The midfielder scored on his first appearance for the club’s development squad, in a pre-season friendly against East Kilbride. Benyu made his competitive debut in Celtic’s 4–0 victory over Linfield at Celtic Park.

A box-to-box asset, the skillful prospect scored five goals and was a good source for assists as his loan spell brought him both experience and plaudits.

Having already been handed his first senior international call-up by Zimbabwe, the birthplace of his parents, his career is progressing at a fast rate.
