Zimbabwe Football Association are reportedly making an ambitious bid to convince Arsenal forward Reiss Nelson to feature for the national team.

Nelson was born in England to a Zimbabwean father and English mother which makes him eligible to play for the Warriors.

According to KweseESPN, Warriors team manager Wellington Mupandare said they are still trying to establish contact with the player.

“Yes, we are interested in Nelson but we are still trying to establish contact with him, so I can’t say much at the moment. We know that the player is highly rated in England and it will be difficult, but we will try our best,” said Mupandare.

The forward made his first senior appearance for Arsenal against Bayern Munich in a pre-season match in July. His first competitive appearance for Arsenal’s first team was against Chelsea in the Community Shield, coming in as a substitute.

In 2016, Nelson was part of the England national under-17  team that reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA European Under-17 Championship. He played four games and scored three goals during the tournament.

Meanwhile, England based players Macauley Bonne, Tendayi Darikwa and Admiral Muskwe arrived in Harare this afternoon ahead of the two friendlies against Lesotho and Namibia this week. Kundai Benyu is expected to arrive later.
