Match Report: Harare City clinch Chibuku Cup after 3-1 victory over How Mine

A double from William Manondo and another goal from Edwin Madhananga led Harare City to a stunning Chibuku Super Cup triumph at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday afternoon

Edwin Madhananga’s 65th-minute opener, and a double from a quick cameo from veteran William gave the Sunshine boys outfit a hard-fought 3-1 win over Bulawayo side How Mine, who dominated the first half.

Harare are the first team to lift the rebranded Cup for a second time.

Philani Ncube’s troops defended valiantly to repel their opponents’ incessant attacks. Young Goalkeeper Tatenda Munditi was in top form, twice denying How Mine attacks of striker Kuda Musharu with his feet, along with a string of acrobatic saves.

How Mine paid the price for a sloppy start in the second half coupled by a second half siege from Harare City when they failed to defend with Martin Vengasai inviting cross well headed glaringly by Edwin Madhananga to open the scoring in the 65th minute.

William Manondo took advantage of his speed merchant amidst the confusion of How Mine defence to score a quick brace in the 72nd and 75th minute respectively.

Peter ‘Rio’ Moyo was able to pull one back thrashing a powerful shot in the 81st minute for what was to be a consolation goal.

Harare City managed to hold on to the lead up to the end. The win earns them a ticket to represent the country in the CAF Confederations Cup.
