Hage Geingob Cup Preview: Namibia vs Zimbabwe

The Warriors will play against Namibia this afternoon in the fourth edition of Dr Hage Geingob Cup to be played at Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.

The encounter have a sponsorship package of over $300 000 and it is part of celebrations which honours the Namibian president Hage Geingob. The game is also part of preparations for both teams ahead of the AFCON Qualifiers next year.

Zimbabwe will be hoping to win the match after they lost 1-0 to Lesotho in a friendly match played on Wednesday. There were no changes to the traveling squad which played on Wednesday. Captain Tendai Ndoro, Marvelous Nakamba and Tendayi Darikwa are some of the players expected to start.

On the flip side, Namibia named a strong squad which is dominated by several local based players. Highlands Park striker Peter Shalulile is likely to lead upfront while Jomo Cosmos’ Denzil Haoseb will be controlling the midfield.

The Warriors  are currently on position 104 on the FIFA rankings, seven places above their nemesis.

Meanwhile, there is no clear domination between the two teams. Zimbabwe has won 5 matches in head to head clashes while losing 5 with two matches ending as draw. The last tie between the two countries was played in July and it ended 1-0 inside regulation time in favour of Zimbabwe.

Kick off tome for the match is 4pm.
