Former U.S.A women’s national team goalkeeper Hope Solo says former FIFA president Sepp Blatter sexually assaulted her at a FIFA event.
In an interview with Portuguese publication Expresso on Friday, the World Cup-winning goalkeeper alleges the actions occurred at a Ballon D’Or Gala.
“Sepp Blatter grabbed my butt, it was a few years ago at the Ballon d’Or ceremony just before I got on stage.”
Solo said it came in January of 2013, right before the two went on stage to present an award.
She said that sexual harassment at the hands of male officials was a common problem in women’s football.
“I have seen this all of my career and I would like to see more athletes speak about their experiences,” said Solo.
However, a spokesman for Blatter said the accusation was “ridiculous”.
Blatter was president of FIFA from 1998 until 2015 until he was banned for corruption.
