Weekend action round-up

Castle Lager Premier Soccer League
FC Platinum beat Ngezi Platinum Stars 2-1 in a match played at Mandava on Saturday. Dynamos also kept a two point gap from table leaders FC Platinum after beating Bantu Rovers 3-2. Hwange moved out of relegation zone while Harare City dropped to 16th place. Yadah FC were guaranteed safety following a 2-1 victory over Highlanders.

English Premier League
Arsenal beat Tottenham 2-0 in North London Derby played at Emirates Stadium on Saturday. Paul Pogba made his return from a two-month injury lay-off in Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle United. Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City all picked up maximum points.

La Liga
Luis Suarez ended a five-game goal drought with a brace when Barcelona beat Leganes 3-0 on Saturday. Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid played to a goalless draw. The result put both teams on 24 points, ten behind log leaders Barcelona. Meanwhile Sergio Ramos was left bloodied and with a broken nose from a flying Lucas Hernandez boot. Sevilla beat Celta de Vigo 2-0 and Espanyol succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Valencia.

CAF Confederation Cup Final – First Leg
TP Mazembe edged SuperSport United 2-1 in a 2017 CAF Confederation Cup final first-leg clash, at the Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi on Sunday. Sipho Mbule scored the crucial away goal for the visitors following Adama Traore’s opener. Daniel Nii Adjei secured victory for the defending champions.

Telkom KnockOut
Bloemfontein Celtic progressed into the final of the 2017 Telkom Knockout after beating Polokwane City 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out after the teams were tied 1-1 at the end of extra time on Sunday. They will face Bidvest Wits in the final. Wits secured their berth in the final with a hard-fought 1-0 win over a 10-man Kaizer Chiefs at the BidVest Stadium on Saturday.
