Facts about the newly promoted teams

Three teams will be making their debut in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League next season.

Herentals, Bulawayo Chiefs and Nichrut are the new boys in the top flight football while Eastern Region champions Mutare City Rovers are making a return after they were relegated in 2016.

Here are some of the things you might want to know about the four promoted teams.

Club: Herentals FC
Coach: Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva
Region: Northern Region Division One League (Harare)
Herentals FC is a club which is owned by twin brothers Innocent and Gerald Benza. They were the first team  to get promoted in to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League this season. The Harare based club won the Northern Region Division One champions with 7 games to spare. Herentals spent three seasons in Division One before they got promoted and they will be making their debut in the top flight football. In 2016 they finished second, five points behind Black Rhinos. They are know also as The School Boys. The club was formed six years ago.

Club: Bulawayo Chiefs
Coach: Thulani Sibanda
Region: Southern Region Division One League (Bulawayo)
Bulawayo Chiefs were crowned winners of the 2017 Southern Region Division One League after beating Makomo 2-0. Chiefs had their 28-match unbeaten run which stretched to October 2016 ended last month in a match against Chiwororo. In 2012, the Bulawayo side won the Southern Region championship but opted to stay in division one due to financial challenges. However, they have already confirmed they will be playing in premiership next year.

Club: Nichrut FC
Coach: John Nyikadzino
Region: Central Region Division One League (Shurugwi)
Owned by businessman Nicholas Gara, Nichrut made history by becoming the first team ever from Shurugwi to gain promotion in to the premiership. Coach John Nyikadzino guided the team to their first premiership promotion after being appointed the head coach at the beginning of the season. In previous campaign, they finished 8th with 41 points.

Club: Mutare City Rovers
Coach: Kenny Kachara
Region: Eastern Region Division One League (Mutare)
Mutare City Rovers will be returning to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after spending one season in Division One. Rovers were the last of the four teams to get promoted. The squad which was crowned 2017 Eastern Region champions has the 2008 Soccer Star Of The Year winner Evans Chikwaikwai. A 4-0 win over Buffaloes over the weekend gave promotion to the municipality owned team after amassing an unassailable 69 points with only one round of league matches remaining. Coach Kenny Kachara took over the team at the beginning of the season after Masimba Dinyero was relieved from the post.
