UCL: Chelsea and Barcelona secure last-16 spots, PSG run riot, Man Utd stunned

Barcelona secured a place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a goalless draw against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on Wednesday evening.

The big news prior to kickoff was the exclusion of Lionel Messi from the first XI, but even after he was introduced in the second half, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was unable to break the deadlock.

Two goals from Willian have Chelsea record a 4-0 win over Qarabag FK, a result which secures the Premier League side’s place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Qarabag had Rashad Sadygov sent off for a professional foul during the early stages, and Chelsea took full advantage as Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas got on the scoresheet to complement a fine display from Willian, who was making his 200th appearance for the club.

Celtic succumbed to a 7-1 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in Wednesday night’s Champions League clash at the Parc des Princes.

Manchester United have been made to wait to seal a place in the last 16 of the Champions League, having been defeated 1-0 by Basel at St Jakob-Park.

The Red Devils were second best throughout the second half, following a dominant showing in the opening 45 minutes, and they came unstuck late on through a Michael Lang goal.
