West Brom coach expected in Zim

English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion FC academy coach Ahmed Ali will hold a four-day training clinic that begins tomorrow at Belgravia Sports Club.

The training clinic is being facilitated by BN Academy director Bhekithemba Nyoni. Zimbabwe-UK Under-17 coach Trevor Mazhande will also be part of the coaching staff.

According to The Sunday Mail, the clinic is targeting players from the young age of six right up to 19.

“Trevor Mazhande is already in the country while Ali is expected today ahead of a four-day training clinic which will commence tomorrow at Belgravia Sports club.

“Although our target group is 13 to 19-year-olds, players from the age of six will be given an opportunity to take part in the clinic,” said Nyoni in an interview with newspaper.

The BN Academy director also  said players shortlisted during the training clinic will be afforded a chance for trials at the English side academy.

“Ali has given us an assurance that players that will be shortlisted during the clinic will be given an opportunity to go for trials at West Bromwich Albion. This will be good for the development of sport in the country, such programs give our players and coaches a different dimension to football,” said Nyoni.

Meanwhile, Nyoni revealed that in August he struck a deal with Football CVs Academy in the United Kingdom. The deal will see top English Academy club managers coming to Zimbabwe to conduct training clinics.

“This visit is the first of many visits to come after we struck a deal with Football CV Academy sometime in August and we are expecting the head of the Football CV Academy to be in the country in April next year.”
