Zifa Must Be Organised: Mapeza

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza has taken a swipe at Zimbabwe Football Association’s lack of planning saying this puts coaches in a predicament.

Mapeza who is one of the coaches who have been taking charge of the national team in the absence of a substantive coach since the sacking of Kalisto Pasuwa early this year, said ZIFA should engage the clubs of the coaches they need well in advance to allow proper planning.

“I have a calendar with FC Platinum and ZIFA knows what should be done. They should take their calendar of events to FC Platinum and say we need the services of your coach in such dates. At times it appears like I snub the national team but things must be organised. Even if it’s going to be any other coach not me, he must be allowed to plan,” said Mapeza.

“At times you just need a call saying we are playing an international friendly next week, assemble a squad. ZIFA and the Premier Soccer League must plan in advance and have a calendar which helps coaches to plan. We want to know when cup games are, when is the Chibuku Super Cup going to be played. This helps the coaches.”

Mapeza was in charge of the Warriors’ 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia before Sunday Chidzambwa took over for the COSAFA Cup and the CHAN qualifiers.

Next year, the Warriors will be heavily involved in the AFCON qualifiers campaign and its not yet clear who will be charge with Mapeza seemingly having fallen out of favour after clashing against ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa’s benefactor Walter Magaya.
