Suarez, Paulinho both score twice as Barca thrash Deportivo La Coruna

FC Barcelona maintained their unbeaten run in La Liga with an emphatic 4-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna at the Camp Nou on Sunday.

The Catalans moved six points clear at the top of La Liga and warmed up for next week’s ‘Clasico’ against the champions, Real Madrid, by easing to the big victory with doubles from Luis Suarez and Paulinho.

Suarez opened the scoring from a close range in the 29th minute after Lionel Messi set him up while Brazil international Paulinho got the second in the 41st, tapping in on the rebound after Messi had hit the post.

Suarez completed his brace two minutes into the second half with a well-composed strike.

Messi endured a frustrating night in front of goal and was unable to add to his 14 league goals for the season despite hitting the woodwork three times and also having a penalty saved in the 70th minute.

Paulinho made it 4-0 five minutes later from a rebound again after Jordi Alba’s shot came off the post.

Barca are now on 42 points, 11 ahead of fourth-placed Real Madrid, who have a game in hand after missing this weekend’s action due to playing in the Club World Cup.
