ZIFA provinces back Chiyangwa presidency

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA)’s 10 provincial chairmen have unanimously endorsed Philip Chiyangwa’s candidature ahead of next year’s elections.

According to The Herald, Mashonaland Central boss Gilbert Saika together with other chairmen addressed a media conference yesterday backing Chiyangwa who is seeking re-election as the association’s president.

“We are here as provincial chairmen to endorse the candidature of Dr Philip Chiyangwa for the elections in 2018 and we don’t expect any opposition to that,” said Saika.

“We want the president to bring sanity to our local football so that we can attract more sponsors. There were a lot of things which were happening in the past in terms of financials.”

Chiyangwa has been in office since December 5, 2015 when he resoundingly won the elections ahead of Trevor Carelse Juul, Leslie Gwindi and James Takavada.
