Ramos makes a controversial comment after El Clasico defeat

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos made a controversial comment about the exiled Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont following their 3-0 defeat to Barcelona in El Clasico on Saturday.

Ramos was lucky to escape a red card after he slapped Luis Suarez whilst challenging for the ball.

The Spain international was asked about the incident after the loss and risked the ire of the Catalonians by referring to exiled Puigdemont in his post-match comments.

“In Barcelona, sure they think I should go to jail with Puigdemont. I had no intention to hit Luis Suarez,” Ramos said.

Puigdemont is currently in exile in Belgium and is viewed as the President of Catalonia by supporters of Catalan independence. The 54-year-old fled the country in October for fear of imprisonment from the Spanish government.
