Highlanders Respond To Zifa

Highlanders say it will not be emotive in its response to an order by Zifa to shelve its elections scheduled for next month but will be guided by its legal team.

Zifa wrote to Highlanders on Thursday telling the club that no elections can be held without the authorisation of the association. The country’s football mother body also told Highlanders that it was improper for them to hold elections before the finalisation of the suspended Peter Dube matter which is on the Zifa AGM whose date is still to be concluded.

“We are obviously taking the matter under advisement from our legal team. We are one of the few clubs that hold an AGM every year, so our constitution is definite of when the AGM is held. Our AGM is held every last Sunday of January every year, and in an election year, the elections are held a week after,” said Dube.

“We will only be able to respond to the authorities of the country’s football after seeking advisement where we stand in terms of our constitutional requirements. We will not at this juncture put the horse before the cart, so we will approach it without being emotive and emotional about it.”

Highlanders were due to hold their AGM on January 29 before having elections a week later to chose a new chairman, Secretary-General and a committee member.
