EPL: Man United and Chelsea lose while Man City inch closer to title

Bournemouth pulled off one of the shock results of the season by beating Premier League champions Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, easing their relegation fears in the process.

The Cherries travelled to London sitting just two points above the dropzone, but three second-half goals in 16 minutes from Callum Wilson , Junior Stanislas and Nathan Ake saw them leave celebrating a surprise victory.

Bournemouth’s surprise win brought Chelsea’s run of eight home games unbeaten to an abrupt end, and saw them drop below Liverpool into third place in the table on goal difference.

Howe’s side, meanwhile, have climbed three places to 10th and are now on a run of six games without defeat.

Christian Eriksen scored the third-fastest goal in Premier League history to help Tottenham Hotspur to a 2-0 win over Manchester United in Wednesday’s game at Wembley Stadium.

The Dane – who was making his first appearance in 18 days – netted after just 11 seconds, before Phil Jones put through his own net later in the first half to give Spurs a deserved three points from the encounter in North London, which was played in front of a Premier League record crowd of 81,978.

United under-performed as they lost their six-game run of clean sheets, but both teams received a boost with the news that Chelsea had lost at home to Bournemouth .

Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to 15 points with a 3-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at the Etihad Stadium this evening.

Kevin De Bruyne assisted the first and scored the second before Sergio Aguero made the scoreline more reflective of City’s dominance with an 89th-minute third.

With Manchester United losing 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur this evening, the Citizens are now one step closer to an emphatic title triumph.
