CAF CL Preview: CD Primeiro de Agosto vs FC Platinum

FC Platinum begin their CAF Champions League campaign this afternoon when they play Clube Desportivo Primeiro de Agosto in the first leg of the preliminary round, at the 11 November Stadium in Luanda, Angola.

The Zimbabwe champions are looking to improve this time following a disappointing performance on their debut appearance in the CAF inter-club competition in 2015.

They were knocked out in the first round of the Confederation Cup by Young Africans of Tanzania after they failed to overturn a  5-1 loss suffered in the first leg.

The squad that arrived in Angola on Thursday has no foreign players. Zambian Shadreck Mayembe and Albert Eonde of Cameroon were dropped due to lack of match fitness.

Kevin and Elvis Moyo are expected to partner at the back with Lawrence Mhlanga while Rodwell Chinyengetere, Ali Sadiki and Mkhokeli Dube could make up the frontline.

Wallace Magalane who was on goal in FC Platinum’s friendly matches last week is likely to start today.

On the other hand, Desportivo Agosto have some foreign players in their squad which include Nigerian attacking midfielder Akinfenwa Ibukun and Jackson Chileshi of Zambia.

The home team will try to capitalise on the home advantage and the experience they have acquired in 11 appearances made in CAF inter-club competitions.

Meanwhile, the temperature will be around 30 °C at the time of kickoff with a humidity of 62%. Winds will blow at a speed of 15km/h West.

The match starts at 5 pm Zimbabwean time.
