Avoiding relegation is the first objective – Nichrut

Newly promoted Nichrut FC’s chairman Lazarus Manzini says avoiding relegation is the primary target ahead of their first season in Castle Lager Premiership.

The Shurugwi based outfit played their first major game playing out a goalless draw against a new look Highlanders side in a pre season friendly match played over the weekend.

Despite strengthening Nichrut’s ranks with a number of season campaigners , including duo of former Tsholotsho players -Ocient Ncube and Bruno Madanhire, the John Nyikadzino side has experienced defenders like Tonisani Sibelo, Nkosilathi Moyo, Ephraim Mwinga and David Boriwondo.

Nyikadzino hopes to add further reinforcements before the transfer window shuts at the end of next month.

However, in an interview with the Chronicle chairman Manzini feels it’s too ambitious to talk about the title but his side will firmly enter the race to avoid relegation so as to fight in other seasons for silverware.

“We want to stay in the PSL and avoid relegation this season so that next year we can compete for the championship. In terms of resources, we’re prepared to pull through,” said Manzini.

Coach John Nyikadzino believes his charges can withstand the Premiership heat.

“We’re coming up slowly and the guys are getting to understand how we want them to play. Their fitness and endurance levels are coming up well. I think by the time we start the season, we will be ready to withstand pressure and compete. Our target is to avoid relegation and I believe it’s possible,” Nyikadzino said.
